This tomb was erected by Mr. John Crowe Govr of Dundalk Gaol, to the memory of his son John who departed this life the 15th day of October 1823 aged 16 years
Also of his son Faithful William who departed this life the19th day of August 1824 aged 1 year
As also of his son Richard Henry Crowe who departed this life on the 29th August 1828 aged 16 years
Also to the above named John Crowe who departed this life on the 19th of November 1849 aged 81 years and of his wife Sarah who died May 31st 1853 aged 75 years.
Bio:
John Crowe was the Late Governor of Dundalk Gaol. He was a resident of Brunswick Row, Dundalk and his wife Sarah was of Linenhall Street, Dundalk. It noted in the tombstone register "John Crowe had land out at Dowdallshill just inside the Parish boundary near the New Inn on east of the main road. He used to take some of the prisoners out there to help on his farm. It is known as Crowes Marsh."
