Inscription:

Erected by Robert Shankey of Dundalk in memory of his beloved son John who fell asleep in Jesus 2nd June 1875 aged 14 years
Also his beloved daughter Marianne who departed this life
in the full enjoyment of perfect peace, 17th March 1876 aged 26 years
Also in memory of the above Robert Shankey born 19th (or 15th) August 1810. Died 24th November 1889
and of his beloved wife Esther born 5th December 1818. Died 30th March 1900.

Bio:

of Linenhall Street, Dundalk and his wife Esther of Mountain View, Dundalk. Robert Shankey was a chief boatman with Giles Quay Coastguard.  He lead a party to the Mary Stoddart wreak in Dundalk Bay in 1857. Unfairly Robert Shankey went unrecognised for his bravery. Robert's son Robert Shankey a grocer assistant married Margaret Parks daughter of Samuel Parks Builder.
